Kkwabaegi Recipe (Korean Twisted Donuts)
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp instant yeast
2/3 cup warm milk
2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
1 egg
Vegetable oil (for frying)
1/2 cup sugar mixed with 1 tsp cinnamon (for coating)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Dough:
In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
Add warm milk, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the Dough:
Knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1–2 hours, until doubled in size.
- Shape the Dough:
Punch down the dough and divide it into 8–10 equal pieces.
Roll each piece into a long rope (about 10 inches) and twist it into a spiral shape.
- Second Rise:
Place the shaped dough on parchment paper, cover lightly, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Fry the Donuts:
Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
Fry the twisted dough in batches, turning occasionally, until golden brown (2–3 minutes).
Drain on paper towels.
- Coat the Donuts:
Roll the warm donuts in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until evenly coated.
